SRA Principal Dan Richard announced the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2019 last night at the annual Underclassmen Awards Night. Seniors Theresa Wagner and Jillian Hughes will lead their class at the 91st commencement exercises on June 9.

Theresa earned the honor with a 116.36 GPA (weighted) and will take her talents to Brown University where she plans to major in a humanities field. Jillian, earned a 115.35 GPA and will attend Connecticut College in the fall, planning to double major in math and computer science.

In addition to excelling academically, both girls are deeply involved in activities at the Academy and in their communities.

Theresa, a Pawtucket native, most enjoyed her time in the Saints Drama Club and as captain of the Dance Team. She has also been class president for three of her four years. Jillian, a resident of Smithfield, has been part of the Drama Club’s tech crew, was a member of the girls tennis team for two years and on the Math Team.

Service was also a significant component of their high school careers. Both girls were active in Lasallian Youth, singing Christmas carols at Fogarty Manor and Darlington Assisted Living, helping host winter vacation camp at Prospect Heights, and participating the Homeless Sleepout. Jillian volunteers with her parish St. Michael's Church in Smithfield, while Theresa regularly volunteers at the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen.

Theresa and Jillian are members of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, and the Thespian Honor Society.

Saint Raphael Academy’s Class of 2019 will have its commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 9, at 2:30 pm at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence.
