Saint Raphael Academy Welcome to the Saints family. Welcome home.

International Admissions

Welcome! We are pleased that you are considering applying to Saint Raphael Academy. The Academy is a college-preparatory, co-educational, Catholic high school with a university-style campus located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Rhode Island is known as “The Ocean State” due to its miles of coastline, and the city of Pawtucket is approximately one hour by train from Boston, Massachusetts, and three hours by train from New York City. The Academy has approximately 500 students and offers small classes and individualized attention for all students. Our graduates pursue post-secondary education at colleges and universities, from local and regional schools to national top-tier schools. In addition to preparing students for the academic challenges that will await them in college, we offer them the opportunity to become a well-rounded college applicant by encouraging them to get involved in some of our many extracurricular activities.

Our international program has attracted students from Chile, China, Colombia, Guatemala, Italy, Laos, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, South Korea, Switzerland, and Vietnam. International students live in local home-stay situations, which has been shown to improve their English language skills and help them become immersed in American culture.

You will be welcomed, challenged, and inspired at the Academy.

International Student Support at Saint Raphael Academy

Saint Raphael Academy meets all students where they are academically and encourages them to achieve their full potential. International students have the additional challenge of learning another language, so the Academy offers English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes to those who will benefit from extra instruction in the English language. Tutoring in English and math is also available to students after school. Our faculty encourages any students who may be struggling to discuss additional help with them.

Advanced Academics

Saint Raphael Academy offers a rigorous curriculum to all of its students that prepares them for university. In addition, the student who has demonstrated superior achievement can participate in the Advanced Placement (AP) Program. This program challenges and stimulates students,

accelerates learning, individualizes education, and indicates that this school values intellectual achievement and academic excellence. Students can earn college credit while they are high school students by taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes. The Academy offers Advanced Placement (AP) classes in nearly all of the major disciplines, including such classes as:

Biology
Calculus
Chemistry
Environmental Science
Human Geography
Language & Composition
Literature & Composition
Psychology
United States History

Students who have maintained a strong academic average, demonstrated that they are independent learners and are recommended by a faculty member may have the opportunity to enroll in one of more than 100 online courses. Courses are available in everything from aerospace to zoology, including many AP classes that can garner college credit. Highly motivated seniors and select juniors who are seeking an academic challenge and have maintained a strong academic average may qualify for participation in the Early Enrollment Program (EEP). The EEP is a concurrent enrollment program designed by Rhode Island College. Concurrent enrollment means the student earns both high school credit and college credit for certain designated courses, including chemistry, Spanish IV and French IV. Hundreds of colleges and universities around the country accept EEP credits, including Boston University, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Northeastern and Syracuse.
