Saint Raphael Academy Welcome to the Saints family. Welcome home.

Spring Means Theater at SRA

February 27, 2019

As weather turns warmer, thoughts of drama begin in Saints’ heads. In reality, students have been rehearsing for months for its spring one-act play and annual entry in the Rhode Island Drama Festival.

Saints will host a send-off performance on Thursday, March 7, at 7:30 pm in the Coutu Theater. They will perform again in the Rhode Island Drama Festival on Friday, March 8, at 5 pm at Cranston High School West.

This year’s one-act play is “Our Place,” a comedy-drama by Terry Gabbard that centers around five vignettes of couples and families coming to a local lake. The lake means something different to each person, and yet there is a common thread about their experiences. All cast members gather together for a final epilogue and realize a truer meaning of “Our Place.”

The Rhode Island Drama Festival will be held at Cranston High School West on Friday, March 8 through Saturday, March 9. The winners will represent Rhode Island at the New England Drama Festival April 15-17, which will be hosted in Rhode Island this year by Cranston High School West and Bishop Hendricken.

The Saint Raphael Academy Drama program is a 24-time winner of the Rhode Island Drama Festival, with its most recent win in 2018 with the tragedy Antigone. The drama program is under the direction of Moira Carraher, Sara Costanzo and Terry Murray. Admission to the March 7 performance is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.

Update:

The Drama Club was chosen as the EDTA Chapter Select at the Rhode Island Drama Festival. Cooper Arnold and Emily Gaboriault both received All-State Awards for Acting. Jack Rigley was the recipient of the Terry Murray Award for Acting, and Jillian Hughes was the recipient of the Stanley Anderson Award for technical theater.
