Saints in Action: 2020 Vision to End Hunger

May 15, 2020

Paul Guevremont ’21 and his sister Hannah, an incoming freshman with the Class of 2024, saw an increasing need for food within their community of Pawtucket, with lines for the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen getting visibly longer during the pandemic. They were inspired to start a food drive for the soup kitchen and called it "2020 Vision to End Hunger." They placed collection boxes at two locations to collect non-perishable donations – one at their home and one at Every Body's Nutrition on Armistice Boulevard --- and communicated to their local and Saints communities that monetary donations would also be accepted.

In just two weeks, they collected 26 boxes of food and nearly $1,700 in donations. After contacting Adrienne Marchetti, executive director of the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen, to assess its needs, Paul and Hannah reached out to a food supply company to buy food from them directly, thus stretching their dollars. All told, the Guevremonts estimate that have collected more than 3,000 lbs. of food, which they will deliver to the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen on Saturday. Well done, Saints!
