Saints Wins 24th State Drama Title

March 19, 2018

Saint Raphael Academy won the Rhode Island State Drama Festival with its dramatic performance of “Antigone” this past weekend at Cranston High School West. This makes the 24th state win for Saints since 1951. The group will move on to the New England Theatre Festival in New Hampshire April 26-28.

The strong cast featured mostly seniors and juniors, many who have been performing in the Academy’s drama productions since they were freshmen.

The part of Antigone is played by Jenny Sullivan, and King Creon is played by Jeremy Knox. Other cast members are Maddi Cocca (Ismene), Jack Rigley (Haimon), Elizabeth Moody (Tieresias), Cooper Arnold (Senator), Mateus Cezario (Sentry), Faith Lambert (Eurydice), Hadiya Pfeiffer (Child), and Sara Langlois (Choragos). Chorus members are Glenn Filipe, Emily Gaboriault, Bailey Gonsalves, Arianna Hamill, Rachael Sassi, and Theresa Wagner.

In addition to the state win, the group also won an Educational Theatre Association award, and several cast members received additional special recognition. Seniors Maddi Cocca and Sara Langlois each won an All-State Award for Acting, and senior Liz Moody won two All-State Awards: one for acting and one for original music. Maddi Cocca also won the Terry Murray Award and scholarship.

An additional sendoff performance will be on April 24 at 7:30 pm at the Coutu Theater. General admission is $10 and $7 for students. Admission will assist the drama club with their trip to New Hampshire.
