Third Time’s a Charm: Boys Soccer Captures D-III State Crown

In what many local sports writers called the game of the season, the boys soccer team achieved what they had been striving for through three years of finals matches—a state championship! The team defeated Toll Gate 1-0 in the D-III championship game last weekend.
Senior Spencer Hsu scored SRA’s only goal, and senior Emiliano Munguia alone blocked 13 shots from Toll Gate on goal. The team’s other seniors include Edgardo Cardona Jr., Jeffrey Codman,  Julian Giraldo, Dylan Polion, Antoine Serena Jr., and Andrew Silva.

SRA Cheer Takes First Place After Recount

After Saints placed 4th in the RIIL Game Day Cheer competition in October, Coach Barbara LaBree discovered a mathematical error in computing the final scores—actually putting SRA in first place in the Small Schools Division. Seniors on the team include Victoria Biagetti, Ava Librizzi, and Nicole Pajaro.

Girls Volleyball Wins its First D-III Championship!

After a strong regular season with a record 16-2-0, the girls volleyball team cinched their first D-III championship title on Sunday, besting Block Island in all three sets. The team was eager for redemption after a tough loss in the championship last year. Junior Madison Nault and sophomore Victoria Adegboyega were instrumental in leading the team to their win, in part with Nault setting up Adegboyega for the game-winning final point.

Paige O’Brien and Alivyah Perryman are the senior starters.

Junior Rachael Mongeau placed first in the Class C meet and also placed third in the state meet. Many runners went on to the the New England Cross-Country Championship Meet for the first time since 2001, with standouts Kipyego and Mongeau each placing 16th in their races. Both earned First Team All-State recognition, along with Medeiros. Medeiros, Colby Luiz, and Alexi Angell are the teams’ seniors.
