Baseball

  

In April 1925, the sport of baseball became part of the activities at Saint Raphael Academy. The school opened in 1924 and interest grew quickly in establishing a baseball team. To obtain funds to purchase the necessary equipment, subscription books were offered to students. All told, $234.80 was raised.

Many Saints players continued their baseball careers at schools such as the University of North Carolina, Georgetown University, Duke University, Eckerd College, University of Bridgeport, and Salve Regina. Perhaps a future major leaguer, such as Christopher Iannetta ’01, could be playing at Saint Raphael Academy today.
